Manchester Deaf Centre and the WEA [Workers Education Association] are delighted to announce that they have secured funding from the Big Lottery to deliver a PTTLS [preparing to teach in the life long sector] teaching certificate to deaf people.

The aim of this course will be to teach deaf people how to plan and deliver BSL classes to the hearing community. This will not only give empowerment to the deaf person but also future job prospects as well.

The course will be delivered by the WEA and will be held at Manchester Deaf Centre. It will run for approx 9 weeks. It will have interpreters at all sessions and a notetaker to ensure that communication is not lost at any time.

The future plan is that we will be able to teach a deaf person to go on and have the training to be able to teach the PTTLS course themselves, therefore making the whole course deaf led.

This is an exciting prospect for both Manchester Deaf Centre and the WEA. Without the funding given by the Big Lottery this would not have been possible.
