Deaf Awareness Courses
Manchester Deaf Centre provides Deaf Awareness Training to individuals, public bodies, organisations and the private sector. The course supports the new DDA legislation and therefore assists organisations by enabling them to offer equal and accessible services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing people.
The Aim of the Course: Is to develop an understanding of the difference between deaf people who use speech, and those who use Sign Language. The course explores the barriers which limit deaf people’s opportunities, and what technical/human aids to communication are appropriate to meet the different needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing people.
The Course is Structured: So that organisations can put in place positive ways of communication which offer equal service to deaf and hard of hearing people.
The Deaf Awareness Course: Is led by an experienced Deaf Tutor. It is taught over 6 weeks, 2hrs per week for individuals. For organisations the course can be run over two days either in the Deaf Centre or in other locations.
At the end of the course an assessment is held, and if successful, students will be awarded Signature's Level 1 Certificate in Developing Awareness and Communication with Deaf and Deafblind People
