Lauren Feeney

I Can Project Co-Ordinator and Youth Engagement Officer

I am profoundly Deaf and bilingual in both BSL and English. I am the only Deaf person in my family, with everyone hearing and cannot sign. I was fortunate enough to experience both hearing and Deaf world at same time growing up but that didn’t come without the barriers I’ve had to deal with everyday. Due to my experiences, I then became actively involved within the Deaf community to try and help find solutions to overcome barriers that we all have to navigate through.

I have previously worked as Youth Worker here in Manchester Deaf Centre for 2 years within both the D.A.V.E Project (age 16-25) and Play scheme (age 6-12)group. I’m excited to have been given a new fabulous opportunity to expand and deliver my expertise and service once more. Since 2014, I’ve worked with many young deaf people of all ages here in the UK and abroad, having spent three months volunteering educating young deaf people in Kenya, back in 2019. I am qualified International Sign Language Interpreter/Translator, having traveled extensively to several countries for work and travel and still counting. I am currently working towards my British Sign Language Interpretation/Translation Diploma.

When Im not working, I love spending time with my two dogs, in my camper van travelling here in UK and round the world. I love learning other countries signed languages, so far I know ten different signed languages, but there is roughly 300 signed languages around the world, I aim to learn to more!
