How can I get to MDC?

Manchester Deaf Centre is inside Crawford House, which is situated on the corner of the crossroads of Booth St East and Oxford Road. Use the entrance on Booth Street East under a footbridge. This entrance leads to a small courtyard, our door is at the back of this courtyard. The nearest train station is Oxford Road and the nearest Metrolink stop is St Peter’s Square. There are several buses that stop right outside MDC on Oxford Road. The nearest car park is at the Aquatic Centre. For full details on how to get to MDC click here.

Where is the entrance to MDC?

The entrance to MDC is on Booth St East (central and west entrance), under a footbridge. This leads to a small courtyard and our door is at the back of that. Please look for signs directing you to Crawford House and Manchester Deaf Centre. For full details of how to get to MDC please click here.

Can MDC support with my Hearing Aids or Sensory Aids?

Unfortunately, we are unable to support with this. If you are a Manchester resident, please contact Manchester City Council and they will be able to assist you:

Is MDC wheelchair accessible?

Yes, our building is fully wheelchair accessible. There is ground floor access to the main reception and a lift inside the building to access the first floor.

Does MDC deliver BSL courses?

Yes, we deliver fully accredited BSL courses for Levels 1, 2 and 3. Our courses are accredited by Signature and taught by fully qualified teachers. You can read more here.

Referrals can be done via the Contact Centre in BSL via SignVideo app, or via www.manchester.go.uk; email to mcsreply@manchester.gov.uk, by Relay UK via operator to 0161 234 5001, or they can directly minicom/textphone to 0161 274 4655 (then select option 2).

Is there car parking at MDC?

The nearest car park is the Aquatics Centre NCP on Booth St East. It is approximately a 2-minute walk away. Please note this is not suitable for larger vehicles such as transit vans or HGV’s.

Is there parking for Blue Badge holders?

Yes. There are limited parking spaces outside the building on Booth St East. Please note you must have a Blue Badge on display to park here.

Does MDC offer work experience placement opportunities?

Can I book a BSL interpreter?

Yes. If you would like to book a BSL Interpreter, you can do so here. If you have any queries and would like to discuss these before making a booking, please contact our Bookings Officer.

Is there a fee involved when booking a BSL interpreter?

Yes. You can see the fees in the Terms and Conditions section of the Interpreter booking page.

Does MDC have any services for children or young people?

Yes. We have several different services available for children and young people. You can learn about them here.

Can MDC support with my Access To Work?

Yes. If you would like support in applying for ATW, you can contact our support team at waite@manchesterdeafcentre.com or alternatively book an appointment with one of our specialist employment advisors here. Please note if you have an ATW budget we can also help you to book an Interpreter.

I know somebody who is deaf or hard of hearing and I am concerned about them, what can I do to help them?
