How can I get to MDC?

Manchester Deaf Centre is situated on the corner of the crossroads of Booth St East and Oxford Road. The nearest train station is Oxford Road and the nearest Metrolink stop is St Peter’s Square. There are several buses that stop right outside MDC on Oxford Road. You can look for more travel information here.

Where is the entrance to MDC?

The entrance to MDC is via Booth St East. Please look for signs directing you to Crawford House and Manchester Deaf Centre.

Can MDC support with my Hearing Aids or Sensory Aids?

Unfortunately, we are unable to support with this. If you are a Manchester resident, please contact Manchester City Council and they will be able to assist you:

Is MDC wheelchair accessible?

Yes, our building is fully wheelchair accessible. There is ground floor access to the main reception and a lift inside the building to access the first floor.

Does MDC deliver BSL courses?

Yes, we deliver fully accredited BSL courses for Levels 1, 2 and 3. Our courses are accredited by Signature and taught by fully qualified teachers. You can read more here.

Is Manchester City Council Sensory Service based at Manchester Deaf Centre?

The Sensory Service is based in the same building however MDC is not affiliated with MCC Sensory Service in any way. If you would like to contact MCC Sensory Service you can contact them directly here:

Is there car parking at MDC?

The nearest car park is the Aquatics Centre NCP on Booth St East. It is approximately a 2-minute walk away. Please note this is not suitable for larger vehicles such as transit vans or HGV’s.

Is there parking for Blue Badge holders?

Yes. There are limited parking spaces outside the building on Booth St East. Please note you must have a Blue Badge on display to park here.

Does MDC offer work experience placement opportunities?

Please contact MDC’s manager John Hesketh if you would have any queries linked to work experience placements.

Can I book the BSL interpreters?

Yes. If you would like to book a BSL Interpreter, you can do so here. If you have any queries and would like to discuss these before making a booking, please contact our Bookings Officer.

Is there a fee involved when booking a BSL interpreter?

Yes. You can see the fees in the Terms and Conditions section of the Interpreter booking page.

Does MDC have any services for children or young people?

Yes. We have several different services available for children and young people. You can learn about them here.

Can MDC support with my Access To Work?

Yes. If you would like support in applying for ATW, you can contact our support team at waite@manchesterdeafcentre.com or alternatively book an appointment with one of our specialist employment advisors here. Please note if you have an ATW budget we can also help you to book an Interpreter.

I know somebody who is or hard of hearing and I am concerned about them, what can I do to help them?

We have a variety of services that may be appropriate. You can learn about our Wellbeing Support and Advocacy Serviceshere. Alternatively, you may feel our 50+ Groupwould be suitable. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please contact waite@manchesterdeafcentre.com
