Become a Manchester Deaf Centre trustee

We have some exciting news from Manchester Deaf Centre’s board of trustees

We are looking for new people to join our trustee board. We are keen to have more deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deafened people to join the board. We feel that it is important to have a deaf-led team. We require people who have interest and commitment, involvement within the deaf community and lived experience.

How the board works, the structure and the processes

Annually, you will attend five or six board meetings. These are usually held on Zoom, but there may be one or two face-to-face meetings at MDC. The meetings will last for approximately one hour and will include updates and discussions for and approval of decisions. The meetings will be accessible in both BSL and spoken English.

Our board members possess diverse skills and we are currently seeking people who have either a legal or HR background, and who have knowledge of governance. We are also looking for people with experience in business development and planning. Our chairperson has a vast amount of governance experience, and we can provide support which will help you to develop and upskill. This will be an excellent development opportunity which can be added to your CV. 

If you don’t know MDC, we provide a variety of services for the deaf community. For example: employment support, advocacy, groups for children and young people, deaf awareness and BSL teaching, room hire and interpreter bookings.
