Our Salford Deaf Advocacy Service is pleased to invite SRFT staff to join one of our 1-hour Zoom Interpreter Awareness sessions being held in July:

Tuesday 20 July: 1pm to 2pm or 3pm to 4pm

Wednesday 21 July: 9.30 to 10.30am or 11am to 12 midday

Cost: Free

Prior attendance on our Deaf Awareness training is not required.

Written and presented by a professional sign language interpreter, the aim of this session is to increase understanding and improve practice among healthcare staff in using British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters to communicate with Deaf patients. Content includes:

  • Understanding the role of a sign language interpreter
  • Why a sign language interpreter is necessary to facilitate communication with a Deaf person
  • How interpreters can assist healthcare staff as well as the Deaf person
  • Practical advice on how to work with interpreters in a healthcare setting, including examples of good and bad practice
  • Practical issues such as who pays for an interpreter
