Level 2 is designed to enable learners to develop their skills to communicate with Deaf people using British Sign Language (BSL) in a range of everyday situations. The qualification will allow learners to participate in longer and more varied conversations than at Level 1. The course will develop communication in BSL about real life, routine, and daily experiences. The learner will be able to deal with most routine communication and have enough understanding of grammar to cope with some non-routine communication. Learners will be taught a number of regional variations in sign language. You can see the full overview of this Qualification here. Please note you must be 16 or over to enrol on this course.
New courses starting in September 2022.
Should Government guidelines state that this course is unable to be taught in the classroom at MDC, this course will be taught online via the platform Zoom. Please familiarise yourself with this platform. We would highly recommend using either a laptop or PC computer when studying BSL online, unfortunately a mobile or tablet device will not be suitable due to the screen size and inability to view PowerPoint presentations at the same time as viewing the teacher on screen.
***You should not enrol on this course if you are not willing to transition to online learning should Government guidelines dictate we do so. Unfortunately no refunds will be given should courses need to transition to online learning.
Attendance every week is vital in order for you to ensure you are benefitting and learning as much as you possibly can. Please note: a record of your attendance will be kept and poor attendance could impact whether or not you pass the course successfully. If you fail to attend 90% of the course or more, you may not be eligible to sit your exams.
There will be 2 payment options. Students can either pay course fees in full prior to the course starting or agree to a payment plan. More details will be added when course dates are released.
*Please note: payment plans MUST be agreed and implemented with MDC’s finance officer. If full payment is not received prior to the course starting this may result in your place being offered to another applicant.
*If you decide to withdraw from the course within 2 weeks of the start date you will be eligible for a full refund. If you withdraw after 2 weeks we will not be able to offer you a refund.
