British Sign Language Level 3

The Level 3 Certificate in British Sign Language (BSL) meets the learning needs of those who already have competence in BSL at Level 2 and are interested in developing their skills and knowledge. Successful learners must be able to demonstrate competence at Level 3 of the UK Occupational Language Standards (Instructus 2012). This means that the learner will be able to understand and use varied BSL in a range of work and social situations.

The learner will develop an advanced knowledge of the structure and function of British Sign Language and an understanding of the Deaf Community and Deaf Culture. More information about this course can be found on Signature's website here.

Applicant Criteria

Places will be allocated by the teacher based on the following criteria. Applicants must:

Be 16 years or over

Have a BSL Level 2 qualification

Have the adequate skill set (including productive signing, receptive and linguistic skills)

Demonstrate commitment to attendance

Demonstrate commitment to working within the deaf community

Demonstrate commitment to self-study

Have a positive attitude towards learning, the teacher and fellow peers

If you have not attended the Pre Level 3 course you may be required to attend an interview where your BSL skills will be assessed

Course attendance

Attendance every week is vital in order for you to ensure you are benefitting and learning as much as you possibly can. Please note: a record of your attendance will be kept and poor attendance could impact whether or not you pass the course successfully. If you fail to attend 90% of the course or more, you may not be eligible to sit your exams.

Course fees

Each course costs £1,100. There will be 2 payment options. Students can either pay course fees in full prior to the course starting or pay via instalments through an instalment plan. Course fees must be paid in full or a course payment plan declaration must be signed and deposit received prior to the course starting. Failure to make payment will result in your place being offered to someone else.
