I’m delighted to be the new Children and Young People’s Service Leader at MDC. I’m looking forward to working with the team to further develop an amazing youth service.
I’m a profoundly Deaf bilingual, I can switch between BSL, SSE and English (oral and written) to match the communication needs of individuals. I grew up with a hearing family and went to a primary school for Deaf and then to mainstream education thereafter.
I have previously worked as a PA, Administrator, Deaf Role Model and BSL teacher.
During my 7 years as Deaf Role Model with Lancashire County Council, I promoted well-being for Deaf children in mainstream schools, offering sign language classes at lunchtime club, and providing activities in various educational settings to build up friendships and awareness amongst their peers. I also delivered Duke of Edinburgh sessions. I really enjoyed my time as a Deaf Role Model and look forward to bringing this experience into my new role.
I have a BA degree in Fine Arts and Illustration, and a PGCE (as I trained to be a BSL teacher).
In my spare time I enjoy doing creative arts such as painting and drawing. I also like going on long walks, reading, and meeting up with my family and friends.
