I have been part of Manchester Deaf Centre since 2017, when I first started volunteering with the youth group which I did for about a year. I came back in 2022 to volunteer in the reception office, welcoming visitors and helping out front of house.
In 2023, I joined the staff team as a Children and Youth Worker, and in 2024 I moved into my current role as Business Support Administrator, working behind the scenes to help run our British Sign Language courses.
I have really enjoyed being involved in different parts of MDC and getting to know so many amazing people – from service users and visitors to volunteers and staff. I’m currently working towards my BSL interpreter qualification.
Learning BSL has been such an incredible and life-changing experience for me, and I am very excited to be able to help others start their BSL journey and explore everything it, and the Deaf community, has to offer.
My academic background includes a PhD in disability history, with a focus on Deaf history.
